Almost everyone is influenced by someone as they develop a style of their own.',

There is an art crime plagiarism, which is almost unforgivable in the art world if you overstep the bounds your pencils will be broken and you will be drummed out of the regiment.

But as part of the learning process it is a perfectly acceptable method to copy the work of others as long as you make it clear that this is what you are doing. It would be polite and politic to reference the other artist's work if you were to publish yours.

Be aware that some site communities Deviantart's seems especially vindictive will jump to conclusions and become particularly vicious.
