There is no congress as such-its the dynasty that matters. Sonia is looked as a champion of evangelists causes and Vaticans unofficial representative. For Muslim, she is wife of a Muslim who converted for marriage but Feroz Jahangir Khan only replaced Khan with Gandhi but did not change religion. So she (and her loyalists) are looked as savior and supporters of jihadi movements ( in Kerala ).For Hindus kingdom effect. They were ruled by monarch for longest period (even during Mughal and British). Since there is no king now, many consider Nehru dynasty as emperor of India. But politically Keralites are no less regionalists.
