India always goes in for dominating the opposition via batting. Other than Kapil Dev, I am VERY seriously not too impressed w/ the quality of all rounders India has churned out. At one point during 1987 world cup, Muhammed Azharuddin was a budding all rounder- he had this uncanny ability like Ian Botham to lure the opposition into hitting a few fours and sixs, and then would get them caught out the very next ball.
However, as years went by, we saw Azhar mould himself into a mainstay batsman.
The thing is in India, if u r an all rounder, u are expected to perform as good as a star batsman and as a bowler u r expected to perform as a star bowler. Mindset in Indian cricket (INCLUDING SPECTATORS AND FANS LIKE MYSELF) doesn\'t accept the fact that a good all rounder batsman won\'t be bowling as well as Shane Warne and that an all round bowler won\'t be batting as good as Ritchie Richardson.
