Q.

Don't u think the price of the foods supplied in some air lines n Rajdhani n Satabdi expresses should be separately charged as is done by low cost air lines n other trains?

This is a pragmatic suggestion and if implemented, will be advantageous to the passengers. The passengers in these trains are made to pay for the exorbitant price of food articles as the cost of food stands included in the train fares and whether one takes the food or not, he is bound to pay for the food served on the trains. There is another interesting aspect in the all inclusive train fares of Rajdhani and Satabdi express trains. The Leave Travel Concession rules of the Central Govt servants stipulate the reimbursement of train fares only and no incidental expenses including expenses of food and accommodation. The employees have to incur the expenses on food during the entire period of tour. But those who travel by the above trains stand to get the unintended benefit of getting their expenses on food on the train journey reimbursed. Those who travel by other trains where the train fare doesnot include the cost of food articles supplied on the train, do not get this benefit.

Air lines have stopped food to passenger due to stiff competition and to cut the cost to bring it to the level of AC-1, to make it accessable to all. Whereas, Railways are not facing any competition-people travel by Rajdhani and Shatabdi by paying more fares which ofcourse includes cost of food. What is wrong in it?
