I can't give u a complete answer, but I can give u clues.

Traditionally, we followed a joint family setup, which shares commune oriented grassroots. At present, the trend is the nuclear family, which shares libertarian grassroots. That would naturally be a reason.

And second off, nowadays, husbands and wives fight over the most meaningless of things- like personal habits. I've seen serious quarrels break over something so trivial like SMOKING, for crying out loud. This was never an issue in our traditional society. As long as people got 3 meals a day & a roof over their head, nobody fought.

And the media has been promoting the idea that a "career woman" is a "free" woman whereas a homebound woman is "chained." Many women, and the media itself fails to note that the whole "working woman" thing was started & funded by corporates like Hearst & Rockerfeller just to push labour wages down & to erode labourer's bargaining powers...

And some people think "soplistication" is "so ...more

Because of Education.
Education has made people aware of what's happening in the world and also it gives strength of survival to individuals. Education also teaches them to be independant and take own decisions. This is beneficial at the same time hazardus if we dont use it in right way.
Just because there is a misunderstanding between a couple, they are so independant and non sacrifisial that they readily opt for a divorce. Because they know even if they are separated they can manage their own life without any problems.
Education not used at right areas causes a increase in Divorce rate.

A 2006 survey asked readers what had caused their separation or divorce. Taking both genders into consideration, 22.8% of respondents claimed infidelity as the strongest factor, followed by communication problems at 21.6%, basic incompatibility at 18.2%, and emotional or physical abuse at 16.8%. However, it is worth noting that the poll results differed somewhat between men and women. 27.4% of men chose basic incompatibility as the strongest factor; communication problems came second at 24.5%, followed by infidelity at 19.1% and abuse at 11.4%. (1033 women answered the poll, as opposed to only 481 men.)[

REMARKED A wit "The rapidly increasing divorce rate indicates that we are indeed becoming the land of the free. Yes, replied his practical friend, but the continuing marriage rate suggests this is still the home of the brave."

This being the age of instant gratification, people seem to marry in haste and walk out of it in post haste as well. Renowned criminal, constitutional and family lawyer Ms. Geetha Ramseshan says, "More divorce cases are coming to court but this does not mean marital discord did not exist earlier." There are two kinds of marital litigation one dealing with divorce, custody of children and other matters incidental to divorce and the other kind in which the affected party files for maintenance only. Since social stigma is still associated with divorce in the mofussil areas, many file for maintenance alone. Individuals in both rural and urban areas are becoming more aware of their rights. Ms. Ramseshan says that filing for maintenance is sufficient indication of ...more
