if its one of your loved one..then you should...take them to any of the special place.. whatever the birthday person love.

go on a day or 2day holiday. make it memorable for them
you can cut a cake in evening and must have a good dinner in some good hotel

You can have a unique celebration if you celebrate you 50th birthday on a party bus. This might sound awkward but a lot of birthday celebrants today prefer doing their party on bus because they can limit the number of guests. Therefore they can save more. You may want to try it too.
