For a lay man, Bhakti marg alone is the choice to reach God, if not in this birth, atleast in future births. But for an educated person, gyan marg is prefered, as they can spread the light of gyan jyothi into many agyan people.

Gyan Marg is the Shortest and fastest of all Margs although it is also the most difficult. But with the help of a Bhagwad prapt (God realized) SadGuru this should be a preferred marg. Bhakti Marg on the other hand is the easiest but it too has conditions where you have to have complete surrender and Nirantar (all the time) connection with God (24/7). But eventually Gyaan praapti is the ultimate Goal to Aatma Saakshaatkar (Self Realization).
All the great Saints eventually had Gyaan Prapti without which the Ultimate Goal(Aatma Saakshaatkar) is still not reached. Take for example Guru Nakak, He was on Bhakti Marg but eventually He became a Gyani (Ik Om Kaar), Swami Ram Krishna Paramhans was a Bhakt of Maata Kali and his Guru (TotaramJi) eventually showed him the way to Gyaan Prapti. Narsi Mehta was a param Bhakt of Lord Krishna. He too eventually realized that it is the Atma Gyaan that has to be achieved otherwise all saadhana is incomplete which is when he wrote the famous ...more

Gyan marg is not possible for all since one needs to get a good guru and spend time on that. But for those who hav the chance for that it, it is good.
Bhakthi marg is for one and all. there is no need for any guidelines. It is just surrendering in totality..
So both of them r suitable and good based on the individual's condition.
