Pick Any base version of canon DSLR with eyes shut , The reason is that you can have 3ed party software on your camera to control it fully , There is a dedicated forum of Cannon Hackers who have provided excellent software for canon Digic 2 and digic 3 based processors whch you can load on camera and override defaults provided by Canon with out any harm to your Camra.

And you can increase / decrease shutter speed to any level enabling you to take photos of water drop toucing surface or a bulb exploding.

Normally for doing this you need to spend many lakhs on buying specialized cameras.

Check out the Canon Hackers SDK site to see what you can do with ordanary Powershot with this kit , if you have DSLR you get a real powerful tool.
