Solah Singaars--- (16 ways of beautifying body)-

The solah singaars are as followings---

1)Merdana---
Here the bride's body was messaged with perfumed oils- viz.--rose, jasmine, sandal etc.

2)Mangal Snanam---
The bride to be was given bath with purified water mixed with milk or various oils such as almond oil during winter, mixed with rose petals and mixed with khus or marwah during the summer season. The paste of lodhra, bawchi, sitachini etc was used instead of soap.

The 'solah singar' (sixteen ways of beautifying the body) are as follows: 'Merdana' is massaging the body with perfumed oils; 'Mangal Snanam' is giving the woman a bath with purified water mixed with milk, almondo il, rose petals, khus or marwah and using bawchi, sitachini or lodhra instead of soap; 'Keshpash sugandhi karanam' is applying a paste of shikakai, nagarmoth or kachura on her oiled hair and then washing it off with aritha; 'Angraag wilepana' is applying a thin coat of sandalwood paste on her face, neck and shoulders; 'Kaajal rekha deepan' is lining her eyes with kaajal or kohl; 'Tilak prasadhana' is making a natural bindi or mangalya chinha on her forehead; 'Mukha prasadhana' is decorating her face with a herbal blush, gold, silver or pearl dust and making a black dot of kohl to ward off the evil eye; 'Kesha pash rachna' is styling her hair; 'Alakta niveshen' is applying lipstick; 'Hasta sushobhitam' is cleaning and decorating her hands; 'Paad sushobhitam' is cleaning and li ...more

Everybody likes ornaments to adorn themselves. Especially ladies like adorning each part of the body. There is a tradition in most of the part of the world.
