A general election in India is a gigantic exercise, equivalent to conducting polls in Europe, the United States, Canada and Australia all at once. So claims a report from the National Commission on Electoral Reforms that reviewed laws, processes and reforms.
1) In India we do not have presidential form of Government like in US.
2) There is multi party system
3) the size of electrote is huge
4) The election is carried out in four or more phases. It has several step by step processes.
5) Lok Sabha has 552 members which have to be elected.
6) Even before the election votor list is prepared.
7) The voting is done by voting machines the machines have to be in working order.

The main reason being----everysingle politician is corrupt and lier so it takes more money to present a realy bad thing as valuable
