It is quite obvious.... Modi has become a brand of BJP and a image of rapid development. Congress want to defeat Modi govt. Gujarat is a permanent powerhouse of the chief opposition party BJP. Gujarat is rich and Congress are deprived of the resources in Gujarat for long.

The Congress is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that it wins the crucial Gujarat assembly elections due later this year. The party that is ruling at the Centre since 2004 has been out of power in Gujarat since 1995. The Congress leaders intense, if not desperate, desire to bounce back to power in Gujarat stems from two major reasons: (i) to win back a state it lost 17 years ago so that it can inspire Congress leaders and workers in other states; and (ii) to deflate the BJP nationally by defeating Narendra Modi who has been the Chief Minister for the last ten years and is being viewed as the partys prime ministerial candidate in the next general elections due in 2014.

The BJP high command brought in Modi as Chief Minister of Gujarat in place of Keshubhai Patel immediately after Patel was charged with corruption allegations in providing shelter to earthquake victims in Kutch after the Gujarat earthquake in 2001. Thus Modi became the CM without fighting any elections. He had not fo ...more

The rising respect and fame of Narendra Modi as being incorruptible is making Congress nervous. Moreover, N Modi has made Gujarat prosperous by his policies and practices. The oftrepeated charge by Congress and others that Modi is responsible for the riots of 2002 has not cut much ice as not a shred of evidence has been found to support this baseless wild charge. All this making Congress and also Nitish Kumar of Bihar jealous and they are desperate.

The reason behind B.J.P's urgency to retain power in Gujarat are identical with those for which Congress are desperate to wrest power. There is no surprise it. Congress would not spare any chance to retain power in Andhra Pradesh or Maharashtra. Which party do not want power or knock back power?
