In USA itself there is protest in Newyork that Walmart eclipses small sellers. For every appointment of 2 persons by Walmart, 3 will go unemployed outside. The price of rice and wheat have gone high due to forward buying contract of Walmart and non-release of stock with a view to create artificial demand.
In China , Walmart is having problems. So, India is their target. They want to generate huge profits in
our country by their fabulous approach. There is no need for FDI retailers in India. Slowiy, USA is imposing expenditure- oriented economy in India which is basically a stable Savings-oriented economy.

I am rather sceptical about the entry of these big guys mainly due to fear that they will wipe out many small traders for whom this is their livelihood. May be I am wrong.

Whether they will do or not will depend on economic gains that they stand to get by doing so. This they will be able to assess only after they set up a few outlet as and when FDI in retail is cleared. But right now they are playing a smart game . By making such statement Bharti-Walmart is getting free publicity. Ever since the debate on FDI in retail started people are only talking about Walmart as if this is the only multi brand retail that would be setting up shop in India if FDI in retail is allowed. There are many other like Carrefour, Metro, Ahold, Schwarz, Aldi, Ikea and others about whom no body is talking about because these names have not yet become familiar to us. . Obviously these people are just waiting and watching the local development whereas Walmart is advertising its name and gaining publicity by making statement that gets reported as news.
