The best way is to set the thermostat at 72 or 74 instead of 68 or 70. it seems trivial but it adds up to a large savings. second take advantage of the cool night air whenever you can. open up the house at night allowing the cool night air to get in. then in the morning before it gets warmer close everything up and don't turn on the ac tills it starts to get warm. also check the attic for proper ventilation. a improperly vented attic costs a lot in cooling costs.
lastly be cognizant of lights and drapes. a light bulb put of an incredible amount of heat and leaving the drapes open allows a lot of hot sunlight in.
