Willingdon Island is an artificial man made island in Kochi named after Lord Willingdon the former Madras Governor. It is linked to the mainland by a bridge. it is the main port of Cochin, the shipyard handling all the cargo ships and freight. The Navy headquarters are also on the island. The airport was also there until the modern Cochin airport was built. There are a few hotels there, like Casino Hotel but Fort Kochi or Ernakulum is more attractive for hotel accommodation.

Willingdon Island in Kochi is famous for its idyllic and pleasant setting. This man-made island is surrounded by backwaters. The headquarters of the Southern Naval Command is located here. On this island, you will find some of the best hotels and shops in the city. The island is named after Lord Willingon, the British viceroy of India.
