Well, Sachin's achievements have nothing to do with his being an Indian. Everyone is dancing now because Sachin has scored a double century. What if Sachin didnt get strike in last over and was 199 n.o. ? Would that have made him a lesser player ? NO WAY. For me, what exemplifies Sachin is that even after 20 years in cricket, the dive he put in , in the 1st match 2nd last ball . Most non-cricket lovers and jingoists will now abuse me. Also, announcing Sachin's bday as World Cricket Day would be an insult to others like Gavaskar, Kapil etc.

Even if 24th April was not recognized as World cricket day, it would have made no difference to my appreciation for a player Like Suchin. I have always felt good that I have been blessed to be alive and watch cricket when players like Suchin, Gavaskar, Viswanath, Kapil, Dravid and Ganguly have played for India. Now if 24th April has been declared as World Cricket day, I feel a bit disappointed that I was not born on that day. In that case my Birth day would also have fallen on World Cricket Day :) :)

That we are proud of Sachin's achievements is an absolute fact...but when we forget the brilliance of Sunil Gavaskar-who according to Sir Garfield Sobers-was the real master...is a travesty of truth.
Sachin may be great comapred to the present lot of players who have arm guards, body guards, helmets to protect them against fast bowlers...who are limited to 2 bouncers an over...when beamers are banned.
In the days when Gavsakar scored 774 runs on a tour of west indies..his first...against the likes of Malcolm Marshall bowling at top speed...without helmets...without arm guards...facing 6 bouncers in one over and beamers too directed at his head and body...
I salute his mastery...his artistry...his brilliance...
which along with Dilip Sardesai's double century... fetched India its first victory in a series against the mighty West Indies....
led by Garfield Sobers....the all time best all rounder...
with the fastest bowlers in the world to back him up...
with the batsmen like Lloy ...more
