History of ragging: The practice started in mild form in 8th century A.D. during Olympics that were held in Greece. The practice was later adopted by the armed forces. In 18th century, several schools in Europe and U.S. adopted the practice on the new entrants. After the world war, the students who had returned from war and had rejoined colleges began practicing in rather severe forms as practiced in the army camps.
