Either he has lost it or he never had one. Common sense says that this movement for all its intentions had nothing to do with religion. Mavericks like him will be joined in the band like equally mad nut cases like Arundhati Roy, the so called face of the secularists who want all attention drawn to them and feel isolated when they are marginalised from such issues.

I don't know if this so called Imam understands what he is talking about. How does chanting Vande Mataram or Bharat Mata ki Jai become anti-any religion by any conceivable logic. Was he there at the Bamiyan with the Taliban firing tank shells at Buddha statues that has stood there for more than two millenniums when it had been left untouched by more devote Muslim leaders who had passed that region over centuries without harming him. Such demonic characters are the biggest threat to the nation, because they misuse the freedom of speech that is guaranteed by the constitution of this country. Let him go and talk nonsense in ...more

According to my understanding this is not the real reason for his opposition to Anna movement but just an excuse. The real reason is that (like Congress) he would not like people to be able to question him on anything which he does and does not want to be answerable to his people. And the easiest way to do that is to bring religious sentiments into it

1) This guy needs an invitation (or bribe) to take a stand against the bad things. That is his problem.
2) Why the belated move? It is not his own decision. Someone is trying to use him to communalize the mass movement against corruption. It is too obvious. Politics at play once again. Some people simply do not learn at all.
3) Nations are built by selfless people and not by the selfish. The above guy is not an exception. History is evidence to that. Such people are spoilers and they would always remain so.

Seriously, I am so ashamed of idiots like this. As a Muslim I am happy we are given more rights in India then Indian Muslims are in countries like Saudi. This is just beyond the limit. NO WAY should religion be allowed 2 interfere in patriotism or national sentiment!

I think it's an interesting question to talk about symbolism and this movement. For example, what is the history of Vande Mataram? Vande Mataram first occurred in this book by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1882, it became a part of a sort of war cry at the time of partition of Bengal and since then, since in 1937 Tagore said it's a very unsuitable national anthem, very divisive, it's got a long communal history. So what does it mean when huge crowds are chanting that?
