MBA or Master of Business Administration is a degree programme only conducted by Universities. Whereas, PGDBA or Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration is a diploma which may not be recognised by a university per se and can be conducted by fullfiling bare minimum requirements.

I don't agree with Sudhanshu. MBA is a master's course of minimum 2-3 years course after graduation. PGDBA is post graduate diploma of 1-2 years depending on the course. Both are recognized by top universities. MBA gives a full aspect of the Business Administration including a specialization. PGDiploma gives a balanced prospect of all the course/topics and not going into specialization. Both carry equal value. But for some specialized subject/area MBA is preferred.

Technically, MBA in India can be given by Universities only whereas PGDM etc can be given by autonomous institutes such as IIMs, NITIE or even by unapproved colleges. check credentials of institute rather than MBA/PGDM

The difference between MBA & PGDBA is the institute from which you are pursuing it. A two year management programme offered by an institute affliated to an University is termed as MBA whereas management programme offered by an institute which is not affliated to any university is termed as PGDBA.

eg. IIM'S offers PGDBA
FMS (University of Delhi) offers MBA

Ms Anuradha is correct to some extent.. while Mr Sudhansu is fuly correct but answered only. Main differences can be termed as under:

(a) MBA degree awardable by only Univ or deemed univ.

(b) MBA degree contain specialisation but PG DBA may or may not contain the same.

(c) There are various types of PGDBA varying of different durations ranging from 1-2 or 3yrs. All courses with 2 or more years of duration is considered to be equavalent to MBA. Catch word here is "Equivalent".

(d) MBAs can straight pursue higher studies ie Felowship/PhD but PGDBAs have to check the recognition of their course of that institute from that univ where he now wants to pursue his higher studies.
