The second most populous country in the world. The teeming millions include upper middle class, rich, super rich with unsatiable penchant for consumerism-- armed with ever increasing purchasing power fuelled by cheap and easy credit facilities. What else the global retailing giants need to enter one of the biggest consumer markets in the world?
The Govt (both Central and State) and the central and State public sector undertakings, Autonomous Bodies etc ensure that the DA rates of the employees are revised twice a year to compensate for increase in cost of living index. So the upper middle class, and rich category of consumers who make up the major chunk of secure employees of Govt undertakings will make a bee line to the super market chains.
