Tesla Roadster is 2-seat, open-top, and rear-drive battery electric sports car manufactured by Tesla Motors. The battery is a custom microprocessor-controlled lithium-ion battery with 6,831 individual cells.

The Tesla Roadster is a fully electric sports car. It is the first car produced by electric car firm Tesla Motors.

The car can travel 220 mi (350 km) on a single charge of its lithium-ion battery pack and accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 3.9 seconds with the development transmission.

The Roadster's efficiency, as of February 2008, is reported as 199 Wh/km (3.12 mi/kWh), equivalent to 105 mpgU.S. (2.24 L/100 km / 126.1 mpgimp).

The car was officially unveiled to the public on July 19, 2006 in Santa Monica, California, at a 350-person invitation-only event held in Barker Hangar at Santa Monica Airport.

The San Francisco International Auto Show, held on November 1826, 2006, was the Tesla Roadster's first auto show.
