While travelling by a local train in Kolkata i over heard a discussion between two young 'lesser mortals' like me suggesting one another that if only TEA and JUTE could be well looked after - without exploiting the poor workers, making them poorer still - WB, could have been one of the richest states of WB. But who cares for the welfare of the people than look for the ways and means to 'remain in power'!
And there is no 'cure' for this way things are moving be in congressor BJP; but the rest worst!
SP,TDP,BSP,CP/M,DMK/AIDMK - one shudders to even imagine these parties comimg to power in any form -sigularly or in an unholy alliance!
God save us!

Your contention of the inadequacy of helping the farmer to improve his status is not only applicable to WB, but to majority of states and UTs in India. With all the arrangements, a real farmer does not get his due; middlemen prosper. There is no difference in the political administrators on this aspect. Our father of the nation envisaged that a sincere farmer should be rewarded as much as a high official in the Government, and should earn more respect for his productivity. We only speak of Socialism and encourage doles for the favoured.
