The beauty of an expressive smile and a look is not for all dost. It has to be cultivated as an art. On the other hand the same can be said about one who has the creativity to express his feelings exactly in prose or poetry. Its the work of a genius and not all can do it. Its a higher level of artistry with the advantage that a smile or look can be forgotten but the expressive words are left for posterity--for ever.
I would always place the latter on a higher pedestal.

Words can lie but body language and the unspoken language of the eyes, more often than not, speak the truth with poise, subtlety and an unexplainable charm

What a wonderful and thought provoking question this one is! Two powerful ingredients of human existence are involved here: 'Body language' that is confined to gesticulations and 'words' that is written or spoken. Before we annalise the significance of both in the path of existence, let us dwell briefly on the origin of both the means of communications: In the long journey of evolution in the deep depth of time, there was that specific stage when certain categories of the developing species reached the stage of homoerectus. All the species including homo erectus were able to express, receive and convey their feelings and emotions by and through signs and symbols. This means of communication is nick named as "First Signal System." In the continuing process of evolution, a sect of homo erectus developed unparalleled complexities in their brain and connected nervous interactions with the environs: As a result, these species could communicate and receive information through words, of cour ...more

Both got it's own merits and demerits.these days, if a man expresses his inner feelings only he can be regarded as a best husband amongst the younger generation wives. So words paly a vital role, where as the older generation cabn even convey their inner feelings through their body language and eyes.So basically it is a matter of acceptance and experience which plays a vital role in effective communication and understanding.

Human being are endowed with the power of articulate speech. Although expressive language is pleasant to hear but to observe someone expressing themselves with body language such as the one you describe can be very captivating. I loved to watch both these actors. Madhuri Dixit, Madhubala of yore are another examples.

I am more attracted and fascinated towards subtle form of expressions, that which doesnt amount to conscious form of expression, the hidden feeling or motive behind the words, the state of mind that pushes the writer into writing stuff, the insecurities as well as the guts that gets projected despite opposition of words, and at times the honesty that gets shown in spite of wicked projections, the impulsive and quick expression of a person, the unexpressed emotions very skillfully hidden, the failed attempts, the blatant submissions, the over pouring affection..basically the unintended and impulsive form of expression through words or eyes or lips, or any other mode..
