Its matter of belief. many people feel by sacrificing their pleasures they can feel closer to god. I do not believe in it. But i do believe that doing so will definitely help in attaining self control.

God never ask to loose your happiness ,do your duties and one will get the fruits of his/her action/inactions. ."Geeta ke anusar Ishwar kehte hain ki aap jo bhi kar rahe hain use aap iswar ko samparpit kariye, kisi icchhaa ya phal ki laalasa main mat padiye.Aap ke kiye huey karmo se hi aap ko prapt honey wale phal nirdharit hote hain."
