Karunanidhi's older son and Union minister M K Alagiri as well as younger son and state deputy chief minister M K Stalin, had advised their father to distance himself from the issue. They had pointed out the scam could erode the goodwill painstakingly built over five years of welfare measures and freebies for the poor. But Karunanidhi opted to stand by his daughter and erstwhile confidant Raja. Besides adopting a party resolution backing Raja, Karunanidhi deputed senior leaders to travel across the state on a 'defend Raja' campaign.- Please Comment
Kani has demolished the DMK like anything
Money make many things
Scams demolish all the best efforts.
I am most intrigued by the fact that, culturally and educationally an advanced state like Tamil Nadu have only two personally owned political parties in power for last few decades. Why not the people of TN opt for mainstream political Parties like the Congress, BJP and the communists? The policies of any party may not be acceptable to an individual. But these parties have far more accountability or pretensions than DMK or AIDMK. Did you have any doubt that Amma was coming to power? Why not Congress or BJP or Communists? Look at the politics of the adjoining states - Kerala is a battlefield of mainstream political parties Congress and CPIM, Andhra Pradesh have Con, and BJP though Telugu Desam are there, Karnataka have no personally owned political party calling the shots.
The people of West Bengal have now started taking backward step by installing government of a party, totally owned by one individual ...more
What DMK has lost is the power, but their participation in the scam has probably made the average man lose something much more dear to them. Probably, that was the reason for sweep against DMK, and the super surprise bonus was given to Jayalalitha of AIADMK. Wonder, if people have forgotten about the corruption charges against her just a decade back.
It is unfortunate that the people did not have a better choice.
