Ull moon day bath in the river, tank or on a well in the month of Magh (January-February) Baisakh (April-May) and Kartik (October-November) is recognized as more auspicious and especially so if it is in Kurukshetra, Ayodhya or Kasi. Women observe fast, eating meal once a day throughout the month of Kartik till the full moon day of Kartik. The benevolence of the fast and bath lies in the destruction of all sins and their effect. This day is also important because on this day, God Siva killed the demon Tripura. This demon undertook severe austerities for a very long period at Parayag (Allahabad). Gods apprehending his likely gain of power, tried their best to interrupt his asceticism but in vain. Ultimately Brahma was pleased and awarded him a boon that he would not die at the hands of a god or man. Kartik Purnima Snan is a Royal Ritual Bath and it performed during the month of Kartik at Pushkar. Kartik Purnima Snan observe each of the year as on Full moon light day during Kartik month. Its a holy bath which is performed by people for removing their previous sins and bad effects of life.

During this whole month of kartik people observe ritual fast by taking once a meal in a day till the date of Kartik Purnima. Kartik Purnima Snan is a festival for people who belong to Hindu religion in India. During that time most of the people not only observe a fast or take a royal bath but also engages themselves with various types of ritual and religious acts to earn good fortune.
Legend behind Kartik Snan :

There is a myth in Hindu religion that on this day of Kartik Purnima lord Shiva killed a demon named Tripura with the help of Lord Brahma and lord Vishnu. Demon Tripura was destroying the people and going on a bad path. To save people form Tripura lord Shiva destroyed Tripura.
