Q.
After Gujarath, Tamil Nadu makes chess compulsory in schools.
Is this because of pure love towards this Indian game or something more that connects Gujarath with Tamil Nadu....?

Tamil Nadu has adopted Gujarat's strategy of introducing chess in all schools in an apparent bid to improve cognitive skills of students.
It is aimed at exposing students, especially those from "educationally backward" districts, to the rudiments of the game.
Now let us understand the logic more practically.
This game, India can boast of a homegrown Grandmaster like Vishwanathan Anand.
He is celebrity everywhere, so how can TN stay behind in acknowledging him, and attract the game lovers. That gives political mileage.
The game requires only 2 players, and relatively inexpensive game-kit.
The game requires least of the infrastructure. A table and chairs also can be luxury, while it can even be played on floor.
The game may get included as 'sports' and easily boost successful implementation numbers for educational institutes.
The game has 'elite's status, so the educational department and the government gets a good recognition from the voters.
