Why is the Indian parliament has 543 seats...? why could not be it 300 or 400...?

It has direct compression of no of people living in those areas. For ex. UP has the largest population so it has got highest number of seats. 92. No wonder the politicians are more interested in UP untill the elections and later not even one cablnet post !
