Sardar Patel did not play any role in formation of Regional States in India. His role was formation of a larger India by persuading the rulers of independent kingdoms which were surrounded by Indian Union to give up their right to rule over their kingdom and merge their kingdom with the Indian Union. He was by and large successful in persuading most of the kingdom except Hyderabad and Kashmir. In case of Hyderabad, force had to be used and India moved its armed force to annex the kingdom. In case of Kashmir though the King was in favor of joining the Indian union, majority of people were against it. Using this situation, Pakistan moved its army to annex Kashmir, India retaliated. The maharajas of the princely states, were given freedom to join either dominion.
What Sardar Patel did was to use his skills in persuading many of these princely states to join the dominion of India. It was a political accomplishment. But that did not mean that the centuries old differences became wiped out due to this single act.
Today, the division of states, which we are witnessing, is result of dynamics of democracy, where the differences are being given recognition and being given chance to take contro ...more

In artha saastra kautilya reminds us that there must not be any satru sesham or runa sesham ( no carry forwards in enemity ( foes or any secessionist forces) and in debt). we follow pandita putra( motilal's son) parama sunta 's( great idiot) artha saastra. we are still suffering from it and will suffer to do so. we did have a little help from pv narasimha rao , otherwise the matters would be much more worse.
