First of all the word Atheist has different meanings for different people. For example Muslims consider anyone ad everyone, who does not exrpess his love and devotion to God as per guidlines prescribed by their religion as non-believer, atheist, evil kafir, and worse etc.
Coming to your question, I would like to give a broader answer to it. I have found that (from this point of view) there are two kinds of persons. The first type realise that there is something beyond what our physical senses can percieve. The second type are unable to feel so and maintain that there is nothing beyond what is in front of us and what can be percieved by our senses. The second type of people are termed as atheists
They are always on lookout to prove that they are right and say things like the one quoted by you. There is no point getting into an arguement with them since faith in God comes only when He decides to bestow His grace and mercy on a person

This is scientific view. A few generations back when we were ramapithacus, we hardly used our cerebrum. A while later, in the homo erectus era, we use 2-3 percent of our cerebrum.....in another millenia or so we will eventually evolve till we use 100 percent of our cerebrum.

If we were created with perfection we wouldn't have greed, war, corruption or cheating and would develop like what was suggested in STAR TREK series. We are a constantly evolving species.
