It is contradiction question
in material world happiness comes by gathering more wealth and matter
but one thing is sure people will turn back to spirituality and God for solace in tough times

Is this what is called a paradoxical situation. I did not see this report. I think this may be to do with a raise in disposable income, however small it may be. Ultimately, feeling happy is actually a state of mind. May be not much of conflict is happening around the world - except in Afghanistan/ Iraq theaters.
