YES it is surprising that women cant stand up for themselves. They want to be treated as equals but look otherwise when it comes to standing up for the same. And educated women are no exception in the same.

There are two aspects
1) Society: Many a time owmen suffer in silence. But even when she collects the courage she has to face the whole situation as she will not get the required support not only from society but even from her parents (& surprising one of them is women again - who has or is facing similar abuse).
2) Legal system: Many a time parents are willing to support the women - who is abused - but Legal system - which is quite favorable to women (but practically one can't avail those benefit of laws - if she has to continue with husband's family) - but one law is very bad - CHILD's custody goes to Male - making a women lose out.

What i thnk is that out of so much love and respect for thier husbands they do not speak bout these affairs in public.....coz Indians are known to be tolerant by nature.....but if the beating has started you hurt you frm within and your self-respect is suffering thn only they break thier silence....coz love involves respect, tolerancy frm both sides.....and a relation cannot be carried out with a single person.

Look Dear, everybody has his or her problems and some face it with ease and try to solve and some women just tend to do whateve her hubby tells her to do but sooner or later every women realises her mistake and try to come out of it. They feel if we discuss about her bad relationship with our hubby we may tend to spoil our image publicily or may be some may make fun of us. And our society is also such that they sympathaize in front of u but at ur back they laugh. So they just try to build in the relation as it comes her way.

But i feel if u are physically or sexually abused u should immediately move out of that relationship, without giving a thought that whether u r financially independent or not.

Because they i.e the women are afraid of being alone.
they probably feel it is better to be with someone like the beating husbands rather than not being with anyone at all
