Smiling is a representation of our willingness, affection and our openness to others. Look at a new born baby. It communicates verbally and physically long before and feels the impact of smile at once and responded it always. There have been researches and studies that shows that even if a person gives a fake smile to others, such chemicals are automatically released in his brain that are normally present when he is actually happy and smile with sincerity. In other words, you feel yourself good when you smile and smiling also makes you more attractive for other people. Smile is actually the same thing as an expression of fear and thats the reason why it is gracious to smile at strangers. You are showing them that you ma be a bit afraid of them but not a threat to them.
