The History of North East is so different from the other states. When India became independent, the North East States too declared their own independence. It was only in 1949 that Manipur was integrated as a part of the Indian Union. With very little understanding of the NE\'s unique culture, the Central Govt failed to re-organise these States like what they did for the rest of the Union. Manipur remained a part of Naga Hills. Nagaland was the first to become a State in 1963 and after a long protracted struggle Manipur became a State only in 1973.
Naga insurgency started immediately after 1947 and carried on in full throttle till the Peace Treaty was signed in 1975, though it still persists in one form or other but at a subdued level. The Manipur insurgency first took shape sometime around 1964 and immediately after their Statementhood, rebellion broke out in full force with the formation of the various insurgent groups like PLA, PREPAK etc.
The Central Govt has treated these
