They are afraid that the rash drivers may run the vehicle over them.

It is not that the police are soft on rash drivers. They do catch the rash drivers at specific points where they are posted to check rash driving. However the problem is police men cannot manually monitor the entire stretch of the road. This is not humanly possibly. Our police department do not have the resource to install gadgets like hidden camera and automated speed guns along the entire stretch hence traffic violators get away by breaking the speed limits. .

Traffic police of which city you are talking about ? If it is Kolkata, the reason is political/ drivers' union/ owners' union etc. etc.

I have not seen traficc police working dedicatedly on the roads, only seen on any chai ki tapri, thela or paan shop
