I\'ll just choose from the recent lot. most of the greats of yester years r beyond comparison or compition. I like Vishal Bharadwaj\'s work best in recent times. Look at his range of movies. He can make intense MAQBOOL and OMKARA and hard hiting grey shaded KAMINey, on other hand he can make delightful children movies like MAKDI and BLUE UMBrella.He always exracts best performances from his actors, his movies have great lyrics by Gulzar and a fantastic score by Vishal himself.When most of the directors cry fo shortage of good stories vishal has adapted two great works of SHAKSPERE for his film.

Guru Dutt... he was one o amazing directors of era. i mean he was the bench mark in directing..

As seeing the good record in currently position... as about some of that films who has awarded the best directors for their movies., just as... There have been so many so just cannot pin point any one .But my personal favorites are Mehboob Khan, Shakti Samanta, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Bimal Roy,Kedar sharma , Kishore Kumar and many others.
