A decade ago all Chinese leaders were seen wearing the Mao suit. But now this is given way to western suit. Does it reflect a change in their attitude / mind set towards the western world? Your views?

1) The answer is both YES and NO. Surprised?
2) Yes because the Chinese are changing.
3) No because they are not becoming westernized as perceived.
4) China has definitely changed from the days of Mao. Chinese are more pragmatic and when they adopted the changes, they did not copy the entire thing western in total. They selected what is good and workable for them. All this has been done with dual purpose of attaining the economic supremacy with a view to beat the west in its own game. Yeah, they of course succeeded today after decades of scorching economic growth.
5) So the change of attire is just symbolic. There have been much more deeper changes in the Chinese society as well as in the ways and styles of its government doing business with the rest of the world.

Hi ,Western suit is better ,comfortable and it is a universal. Why leaders of anyy country be forced and pressurised to wear traditional heavy costumes. They, like every other officers need to feel comfortable while working ....!

They have merely adapted well to the changing times. But, most chinese youth these days seem to be getting more westernised in their outlook towards acquiring dress, style and assets (cars, iPad, iPhone etc). But, I don't believe those at the top have changed enormously from the days of 1989 (mass crushing of people near the Tinnamen Square).

They no more like to project themselves to be toeing to the Mao-tse-tung way of ideology....China has realised that in order to attract the international attention it has to shade down all hard core ideologies it had adopted earlier....
