Karl Adolf Eichmann (March 19, 1906June 1, 1962), often referred to as "the architect of the Holocaust", was a high-ranking Nazi and SS-Obersturmbannfhrer (equivalent to Lieutenant Colonel). Due to his organizational talents and ideological reliability, he was charged by Obergruppenfhrer Reinhard Heydrich with the task of facilitating and managing the logistics of mass deportation of Jews to ghettos and extermination camps in Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe. After the war, he traveled to Argentina using a fraudulently obtained laissez-passer issued by the International Red Cross and lived there under a false identity. He was captured by Israeli Mossad agents in Argentina and tried in Israeli court on fifteen criminal charges, including crimes against humanity and war crimes. He was convicted and hanged.

Adolf Hitler appeared to have complete control over Germany, but like most dictators, he constantly feared that he might be ousted by others who wanted his power. To protect himself from a possible coup, Hitler used the tactic of divide and rule and encouraged other leaders such as Hermann Goering, Joseph Goebbels, Heinrich Himmler and Ernst Roehm to compete with each other for senior positions.
One of the consequences of this policy was that these men developed a dislike for each other. Roehm was particularly hated because as leader of the Sturm Abteilung (SA) he had tremendous power and had the potential to remove any one of his competitors. Goering and Himmler asked Reinhard Heydrich to assemble a dossier on Roehm. Heydrich, who also feared him, manufactured evidence that suggested that Roehm had been paid 12 million marks by the French to overthrow Hitler.

Hitler liked Ernst Roehm and initially refused to believe the dossier provided by Heydrich. Roehm had been one of his firs ...more

Cocktail, I will answer this qn. after defining two terms - Powerful one having power, authority and influence and Feared one who evokes fear, terror, fright, dismay and consternation. I am talking not just about the Jews alone, but feared by colleagues, Generals, the Nazi hierarchy, ordinary Germans, the conquered nationalities and virtually everyone. With these as the defining factors, I will answer with reference to the most influential figures in Hitlers coterie, who were not just powerful but feared too. I will go into the biography of any. I will try and cover in as concise form as possible, why I am putting them in this order.

On top of the list is Heinrich Himmler, the most trusted and most ruthless of the Nazis, the one who was entrusted with the sole responsibility of the ruthless execution of whatever Hitler took fancy to, at any point of time. He aided by an equally ruthless Deputy Heidrich (died in June 1941) headed the SS and the Gestapo, had almost virtual control ...more
