it's a yankee word for person of same age group....just like Pal or Yaar.....abusive if u call someone elder....

'Dude' is a word also known as the universal pronoun that has infinite definitions and meanings. The user can say it in almost any situation and still make sense. For example, "what's up dude" is a way to just ask the well-being of a person.
It can be considered rude at times but not abusive.
