The original date of the celebration in Eastern Christianity was January 6, in connection with Epiphany, and that is still the date of the celebration for the Armenian Apostolic Church and in Armenia, where it is a public holiday. As of 2012, there is a difference of 13 days between the modern Gregorian calendar and the older Julian calendar. Those who continue to use the Julian calendar or its equivalents thus celebrate December 25 and January 6 on what for the majority of the world is January 7 and January 19. For this reason, Ethiopia, Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, the Republic of Macedonia, and the Republic of Moldova celebrate Christmas on what in the Gregorian calendar is January 7; all the Greek Orthodox Churches celebrate Christmas on December 25.

neither his followers observed his birthday. as the Roman empreror embraced christianity, he released the christians from persecution, and day or days were of celeberation of pagan gods, so it all got mixed up with the joy of christians relesae and pagan worship the same time.

History shows that December 25 was popularized as the date for Christmas, not because Christ was born on that day, but because it was already popular in pagan religious celebrations as the birthday of the sun

It is immaterial on what day Jesus was born, or where he was born, or who were his parents and relatives or neighbors, who were his childhood friends......they are all NON-ESSENTIALS as far as Jesus is concerned. What matters is his MESSAGE, the import of his teachings, how it has influenced the humanity.
When u speak of Sachin Tendulkar it is his cricketing skills and contribution to cricket that is significant, not his date of birth or grandmothers name. But with people who cant make a difference between essentials and non-essentials of anything, there is bound to be confusion always!
