Second part of the proverb , which says wear for others sake , I think it implies that we should dress in such a way that our dress should speak about our personality without uttering a single word about us.
This again implies a lot of things like dressing neat and clean, keeping one self trimmed and tidy.
This also includes wearing appropriate attire according to the occasion like wearing casuals at casual occasions and wearing the formals at formal occasions etc.
Now I can understand many of us must be following the first part of the proverb as most of us eat as per our wish.

Eat to please the Health and dress to look decent and as per weather condition is my opinion.
